A pizza restaurant and takeaway in Rayners Lane is offering free pizzas to homeless people during the current cold snap.

The Karma Free Pizza Company, in Alexandra Avenue, is welcoming any of the borough’s rough sleepers who would like a free pizza and cup of tea.

The restaurant is owned by Shyam Raithatha, 33, and his sister, Saloni Ben-Belaid, 40, who have run the business on top of their day jobs for the past 18 months.

It is open from 4pm until 10pm every day except Monday.

Mr Raithatha, who lives in Rosslyn Crescent, also teaches karate, works for Cargiant and owns a security company.

His sister, who lives in High Street, Harrow Weald, is a beauty therapist as well as working in the restaurant.

Mr Raithatha, who has lived in Harrow all his life, said: “We just want to help our fellow man and make the world a better place.

“We saw what the weather is like and thought we could help people who are sleeping rough.

“It brings some humanism back. They are just normal people like you and me.”

He added: “If people are coming in then we are more than happy to help.

“We will keep doing this while the cold snap lasts.”

The offer started yesterday and two homeless people have already made the most of it.

Mr Raithatha said that he had the idea when he saw two people sleeping rough and thought how hard it must be in the cold.

He and his sister took them each a free pizza and then decided to widen the offer to all of the borough’s rough sleepers.

He said: “I saw a couple of rough sleepers and thought that it isn’t nice in the cold weather and I thought that I could help.”

The Karma Free Pizza Company only offers vegetarian food and uses Fair Trade and organic products where possible.
