Harrow-born platinum-selling pop star Kate Nash has joined an international campaign for girls’ rights.

The Brit award winner has joined Plan International as their Because I am a Girl global ambassador.

The campaign aims to get millions of girls in the world’s poorest countries to attend school.

Ms Nash said: "I'm so happy to be a part of this campaign; it feels like the perfect charity for me to join forces with.

“I love empowering women and girls and being able to do this in developing countries is so exciting.

“I can't wait to help give girls the opportunities they deserve and see them realise their full potential."

Tanya Barron, chief executive of Plan UK, said: “We are thrilled to have Kate’s support for this campaign which aims to give girls choices over their future.

“At least one in five adolescent girls is denied an education because of poverty, conflict and discrimination- and many face terrible abuses like child marriage, trafficking and sexual violence.

“We hope that together we can support girls to move themselves and their communities from poverty to opportunity.”

Ms Nash will be touring the UK and North America from February to April to promote Because I am a Girl.

Plan International is a global children’s charity which works with children in poor countries to help them build a better future.

Because I am a Girl is a social movement which aims to unleash the power of girls and women to fight for women’s rights.
