The MP for Harrow East has signed a Book of Commitment to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Bob Blackman signed the book in the House of Commons as a way of remembering those who died during the Holocaust.

Mr Blackman also raised the issue in the House of Commons and called on the government to ensure that Holocaust education remains part of the National Curriculum.

He said: “The Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

“I encourage all constituents to mark the day and to join members of community in the fight against prejudice and intolerance.”

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on January 27 every year and is coordinated by the Holocaust Education Trust.

The date was chosen as the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Karen Pollock MBE, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “We are proud that Bob Blackman is supporting Holocaust Memorial Day this year.

“It is vitally important that we both remember and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust – as well as ensuring that we continue to challenge all forms of hatred and bigotry.”
