Schoolchildren will hear from Holocaust survivors at a series of events to commemorate the Nazi genocide.

Northwood United Synagogue in Murray Road and Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue in Green Lane are organising their 13th annual Northwood Holocaust Memorial Day Events which will run from tomorrow until February 6.

There will be a number of workshops accommodating 2,300 students from 40 schools across Harrow, Hertfordshire and Hillingdon.

At every session the students will hear from Holocaust Survivors who will give testimonies of their experiences.

The commemorative events will come to an end with a closing ceremony at Northwood United Synagogue at 3.30pm on February 6.

At this ceremony, the guest speaker will be Ziggy Shipper, a Holocaust survivor.

The event will be attended by the Mayors of Hillingdon, Hertsmere and Harrow as well as a number of MPs.

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place in the UK on January 27 every year.

It first took place in 2001 and the date was chosen because it is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.
