School marks good deed day with community service in Barnet

COMMUNITY service and clothing donations were among the good deeds performed by students at a Barnet school this Mitzvah Day.

Year seven and eight pupils at Jewish Community Secondary School (JCoSS) in Castlewood Road celebrated the annual Jewish good deed day on Friday, November, 18 and Sunday, November 20.

On Friday, the young people collated donations of hats, scarves and gloves for World Jewish Relief and toiletries for JGift and also visited Livingstone Primary School to read with the Key Stage one students.

Lunchtime clubs were held to knit squares for a quilt to be sent to the Ukraine by World Jewish Relief and toiletry hampers were packed for Jewish Women’s Aid.

On Sunday, students visited the Jewish Blind and Disabled Residence in Mill Hill to have a tea party and socialise with the residents. The school’s Mitzvah Day Project organiser Naomi Minsky said: “The wide variety of activities that took place on Mitzvah Day at JCoSS reflects the school’s commitment to social action. “We are extremely proud of our students’ willingness to volunteer and do something to make a real difference to those less fortunate than ourselves."
