A DOG which fell victim to a "horrific and wicked" act after eating a piece of meat stuffed full of pins could be at risk of infection.

The two-year-old labrador, called Boomer, was rushed to a vets on Wednesday afternoon after eating meat which had been laced with embroidery pins.

Vets performed emergency surgery on the dog, cutting open his stomach and large intestines to try to remove 67 pins which had been deliberately put in the meat and left in Canons Park for dogs to eat.

Diane, whose 40-year-old stepson Edward owns Boomer, said: "This was clearly premeditated. It is very disturbing that someone would be so wicked to these animals.

"It's absolutely horrific."

Boomer remains in hospital and doctors are worried he could develop peritonitis from infections to his wounds.

He still has one pin inside him which is too tricky to remove, and it is hope that will pass through naturally.

He was being walked in Canons Park by Edward's uncle when the incident happened.

Boomer was eating out of a bag of butcher's meat which he had found and had swallowed some of the meat before it could be removed.

He was rushed to a vets, and x-rays showed the extent of the problem.

Police are hunting for an Asian man in his 20s who has been seen in the park abusing dog owners, and want to question him about what happened to Boomer.

Another dog is recovering after eating a piece of meat left in Canons Park which was covered in poison.

Diane said: "We want to get the message out to other dog owners that this is happening and they should watch out."

Police are investigating the incidents and putting signs around the park warning dog owners of the potential dangers.
