POSTAL workers began the first of two 48-hour walkouts today, (Thursday, October 4).

They are striking over pay and over fears of job cuts, after Royal Mail managers and representatives of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) failed to reach a last minute agreement.

The strike has brought the postal service to a standstill.

A second 48-hour strike, planned for Monday, means there may be no more post through customers' doors until Thursday, October 11.

The CWU has threatened a series of rolling strikes every Monday until an agreement is reached.
