AN outspoken local trader will be featured in a BBC documentary on Thursday June 7.

Ean Levy, owner of Bags of Time in Wealdstone High Street, found himself in hot water last year after he displayed posters in his Wealdstone High Street shop telling people not to vote for Labour before the May local elections.

Local Labour politicians, including former councillor Keith Burchell, reacted angrily and Mr Levy found himself threatened with a possible prison sentence and a £5,000 fine for speaking out.

Mr Burchell threatened to report Mr Levy to the election's returning officer as he claimed the posters contravened the Representation of the People Act 1983.

Speaking about the programme being aired at 9pm on BBC 3, Mr Levy said: "Since Labour have come to power there have been around 3,000 new laws that affect our human rights and I think everyone in the Labour party should watch this programme.

"They have interviewed Jack Straw in the documentary and I think it will show how silly these human rights laws are and what Labour is doing to the population."

According to the BBC3 website, journalist Sam Delaney "embarks on a mission to help those worst affected by this clampdown on civil liberties to fight back - to defend long held freedoms. He decides to assemble a bunch of New Labour 'criminals' - ordinary people who have been arrested for heinous new 'crimes'. With the help of a top criminal barrister, he tries to find ways in which they can do what they want without getting into trouble with the Law".

Mr Levy said: "I think we are living in a nanny state."
