BRENT Primary Care Trust has got a new chief executive.

Ian Wilson will take over from Nigel Webb, who left the trust on Monday.

Mr Webb was responsble for implementing a robust financial turnaround plan at the debt-ridden trust while he was there.

He said: "I have enjoyed working with you all during this time, and wish you all the best for the future."

Despite the trust discovering £10million of unaccounted debt after submitting its accounts at the start of the last financial year it has managed to end the year in balance.

Ian Wilson started as acting CEO with full effect on Wednesday and comes to Brent with a wealth of experience - he was formerly a deputy chief executive and director of social services in Tower Hamlets.

Mr Wilson's contract will run for five months. During that time the position of permanent CEO for Brent PCT will be advertised nationally.

Caroline McGuane, a spokesman for the trust said: "We are delighted to welcome Ian to Brent. His extensive knowledge, expertise and top level management experience are highly relevant to the next stage of our turnaround process."

Mr Wilson was awarded the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to social care, in the Queen's New Year Honours this year.
