Harrow’s mayor got involved in a culinary world record attempt yesterday.
Cllr Nizam Ismail spent the day with Harrow Council’s Meals on Wheels service which was taking part in a nationwide challenge to set a new record.
The aim was to beat the record for the total number of the same community meal served to customers on the same day within a specified time slot.
Cllr Ismail said: “Everyone at Harrow Council was incredibly excited about the Guinness world record attempt.
“We’re all passionate about providing Meals on Wheels to the area and ensuring that our customers benefit from the nutritious meals served and the social interaction and safe guarding the service also provides.
“The world record attempt was a great way to raise the profile and the ever-growing need for this service.”
Organised by the National Association of Care Catering, the record attempt marked the start of National Community Meals Week 2012 as well as highlighting the importance of the service.
Harrow Council serves more than 200 hot meals on a daily basis to disabled, housebound and vulnerable people living in the Harrow area.
The Guinness Book of World Records is now totting up how many meals were served and will announce in the next few weeks whether the record was broken.
