A Stanmore mother-of-three with terminal cancer is hoping to raise more than £35,000 for the charity she has set up at a half marathon.

Sandra Hamilton, 52, of Aylmer Close, has a team of 22 runners taking part in the Hyde Park Half Marathon on October 7.

She is hoping that between them they will raise more than £35,000 for her charity, Cure Cancer at UCL.

Ms Hamilton, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma six years ago, set up Cure Cancer at UCL in April 2011.

The charity raises money to buy state of the art equipment for University College London Hospital.

To date it has raised more than £400,000 through fundraising events such as golf days, sponsored runs and a zumbathon.

The money has been used to buy screening and treatment equipment for the hospital.

The married beauty therapist said: “I am just flabbergasted by how much our supporters have raised so far.

“It is not about me, it is about the whole team. They all work incredibly hard.”

She added: “I am doing this for selfish means – I want to live to see my kids grow up, get married and have children.

“I shouldn’t have to go through what I am going through.

“I don’t want my kids to suffer from it. I don’t want the next generation dying of cancer.

“The doctors at UCL Hospital are working their socks off to keep us alive but they are having to work with antiquated machines.”

Ms Hamilton, who also runs a property portfolio, has a number of other fundraising plans up her sleeve.

She is organising a fundraising motorcycle ride from England to Marbella in Spain.

She hopes this event will raise more than £40,000.

A song has also been written for the charity which was released on Youtube, iTunes and Amazon on Friday.

The song, entitled I Can’t Handle It, will also raise money for Cure Cancer at UCL and can be downloaded by visiting http://icanthandleit.co.uk/
