The east-bound section of the North Circular has reopened after a burst water main left the carriageway several feet underwater this morning.
The A406 was closed both ways under the Brent Cross Flyover when Thames Water discovered the burst main at 8am.
The incident is currently causing misery for afternoon commuters and approximately 100 homes are still without water.
Natalie Slater at Thames Water said: “Our engineers have now been able to get down to the broken pipe and are in the process of repairing it. This has been a large burst which has caused extensive damage to the carriageway.”
Work will be ongoing throughout the night in a desperate attempt to get traffic moving in both directions before tomorrow's rush hour.
Ms Slater added: “We're really sorry for the disruption this is causing. We're doing everything we can to get things back to normal as soon as we can.”
