Stanmore nurse puts best feet forward to dance at Olympics

A Stanmore nurse has said he is “buzzing” after being selected to dance at the Olympics – despite having never danced before.

Craig Binch, who works at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, in Stanmore, auditioned against 200 other hopefuls last year for the chance to dance in a sequence dedicated to NHS workers, in both the opening and closing ceremonies.

The 32-year-old , who admitted he had not expected to be chosen, said: "I had never danced before – the closest thing I’ve done is Zumba, but I practise that in the comfort of my living room, so I certainly didn’t expect to get in.

"I’m buzzing now, but also quite nervous. I’m starting to realise I’ll be dancing in front of millions of people.

"It’s an amazing opportunity and I’m so honoured – how many people will be able to say they danced in the Olympics?"

Mr Binch, who lives in Beaconsfield, will rehearse four hours each week from April, and then even more frequently as the Olympics opening ceremony draws nearer.
