Money still available despite axe of Harrow Police Community Consultative Group (From Harrow Times)

It is indeed heartening to hear from the Mayor of London that funding to support the development of local policing and engagement remains available for Harrow.

The MOPC have stated that groups are required to submit a funding application including an engagement programme.This has been happening ever since we have been funded by them ie 2000.

The HPCCG,in line with verbal guidance from their Link Officer did provide such an application even on the third occasion which he felt was not detailed enough.Hence funding was removed.

As Chair of the HPCCG who has stepped down after ten years in that role,it concerns me greatly that we have been left in a vacuum,with little or no details forthcoming from the MOPC ,as had been anticipated,at the 23 January AGM.This generated an unnecessary amount of anxiety in those present,making residents and members very angry.

However,this is water under the bridge.High time we MOVED FORWARDS and accessed funds which are being held for us.

We are ALL concerned residents, who need to know exactly how we are going forward with our community engagement.

We need to hear,fairly soon the following details from the MOPC :

1)HOW MUCH Interim funding we may receive a)while a transition/shadow group is being floated and
b) HOW MUCH we are able to apply for once we have held Democratic ELECTIONS.The maximum stipulated for all London boroughs for the financial year 2012-13 is £39,500.
I am confident we will qualify,with proper support and guidance this time.

2)We need to identify WHO WILL APPLY on behalf of Harrovians for this group.Who is on the management team that can help out this together?
3)We will definitely require
a)WRITTEN ADVICE AND PROPER GUIDANCE from the MOPC
b) FULL ADMINISTRATIVE Support,with the MOPC Support Officer supervising this.

We need to know WHO will handle our administration,charg
es and duties spelt out in full, for the incoming team.

4) A programme detailing the time for getting us from "Shadow status" to properly Elected Community Engagement Status.It may take upto July 2012 to achieve this.Members and local residents will need to discuss this.

We are not interested in doing anything except furthering the needs for our community engagement to be re-suscitated at the earliest possible and keep our borough one of the safest in London,along with the support of our Police,Local authority,partners and of course,the dedicated public of Harrow!


I am very touched by all the messages and flowers received from well-meaning folk and applaud all the committment shown by you.I feel truly humbled and thank you all profusely.

Please continue to give off your best and stand solidly behind whatever Community Engagement group takes you forward,exactly as before.

Goodbye Ms. Malkani. If you should at some time in the future decide to re-enter local politics you would be well advised to keep records of on what public money is being spent and to publish the details when requested.

You are ill-informed.Mrs Malkani is not a politician but a local resident so how can she re-enter local politics!

Why would you wish to gloat that the police watchdog (HPCCG) has folded? It is in the interest of Harrovians that there is independent scrutiny of the police and our police support this.

Accounts can be examined at Harrow Council by applying to Democratic Services.

When you have examined the accounts in detail you may then ask questions about them. If you do not go to examine the accounts everything you say is a vague aspersion,
