THE family of a nine-year-old schoolboy recovering from a hit-and-run collision have released a picture of their son in a bid to appeal for information from the public.
Belmont School pupil Ayub Ahmed was fighting for his life after the collision in Church Lane, Harrow, on Saturday evening around 9pm.
His father Abdirashid Sharmake, 45, yesterday afternoon made a passionate plea with detectives for the driver of the car to contact police.
On Saturday, Ayub was taken to St Mary's Hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by the car, which knocked him into another car smashing the window.
He was unconscious by the time the ambulance arrived and is now in the intensive care unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Police confirmed Ayub’s condition is stable and is now improving.
The vehicle, a dark-coloured car, failed to stop at the scene and was last seen heading from Church Lane towards Bushey.
Officers believe the car may have a pink light cluster or pink headlight lens, which would be damaged and there could be dents on the bonnet and the wing.
No arrests have been made.
Detective Inspector Simon Pilbeam, from the Road Death Investigation Unit, said: "I would firstly like to appeal directly to the driver of the car, and ask them to come forward and speak to police.
“An investigation is ongoing to locate the car involved in this incident and it clearly would be better for the driver to contact police first and not to wait for police to identify and arrest them.
"Secondly, I would ask anyone who may have seen a car fitting this description which appears to have sustained frontal damage over the weekend, or a garage worker who may have been asked to look at a car with this damage, to contact police as a matter of urgency. All information will be treated in the strictest of confidence."
Anyone who witnessed this collision or has information can call the Road Death Investigation Unit at Alperton Traffic Garage on 020 8998 5319.
To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
