Harrow Police make dawn arrests in anti-streetcrime drive

POLICE made five arrests in a dawn crackdown on robbery this morning.

Officers from the Harrow Crime Squad detained three men at a house in Burnt Oak Broadway at around 7.30am.

An 18-year-old boy suspected of three different robberies in late July and early August was arrested shortly afterwards at an address in The Meadow Way, Harrow Weald.

He is accused of snatching high value Indian gold jewellery and selling it on at a Wealdstone pawn shop.

The arrests, three on suspicion of robbery, one on suspicion of handling stolen goods and one for criminal damage and assault on a police officer, were part of Operation Chappell, a summer drive against street crime.

More to follow.

Fantastic work,Crime Squad Harrow! With the price of gold set to go through the roof, all Harrovians, especiall
y Indians, please beware.Your personal ornaments will probably make you rich pickings.

We have a string of important religious festivals, being celebrated by our Hindus this month and also in October, like many of our other ethnic communities.

The first important Hindu festival is the Birth of Lord Krishna, called Janmashtmi.Celebrati
ons for this important, auspicious festival began yesterday.Harrow,Hil
lingdon,Brent,
Barnet,Ealing and many more boroughs will be holding many events connected with this.Potential hot-spots for robbery!

This will be folowed by the hugely popular NAVRATRI celebrations---danci
ng for nine nights ---to celebrate the Hindu Goddess JAGADAMBE.Once more,VIGILANCE on our parts is what is badly needed. The Police can do their job far more efficiently and keep you out of harm's way if YOU CO-OPERATE and HEED TIMELY ADVICE.Your local Safer Neighbourhood teams will be rolling out these messgaes very shortly. Please PAY ATTENTION and FOLLOW THEIR ADVICE.Help us beat crime.

To round off these celebrations we have the Hindu New Year DIWALI ,on November 5,---- co-incinding with GUY FAWKES this year. Please take simple precautions and make these happy ,joyous events for yourselves ----rather than for these thieves!!

I am mentioning this to help the general public to appreciate around which dates,in particular, we need to be really alert about wearing expensive gold jewellery---- on the streets, or leaving it lying around carelessly at home ---an invitation to would-be burglars, into our homes!

Do wear your jewellery,as is customary among many communities , especially Asians, but please USE YOUR COMMON-SENSE. Please also make sure you do not expose these items in public places. No point flashing the gold in the face of these villains and crying about being mugged/robbed later. Please DON'T MAKE YOURSELVES A TARGET!This is totally in YOUR HANDS.

It's your responsibility and mine, to heed very sensible advice from the local Police and prevent becoming victims of such a distressing crime.

There is another thing we could all do.Personal alarms can be purchased at a nominal price to help vulnerable groups from such robberies.

Of course, alot of the gold often comes from burglaries which have been committed,in addition to robberies on the streets.

Its a good job that the pawn-brokers in Wealdstone have been assisting Police with their inquiries and that this has led to some very useful arrests.

Might I be bold enough to remind everybody, that ANYONE RECEIVING STOLEN GOODS IS EQUALLY GUILTY and will be sent up for sentencing, along with the villains. No one is above the Law.

It is really sad that someone so young has chosen to commit a crime of this sort.We must try and find ways to intervene and stop some of our youth falling by the wayside.

Great to see Operation Chappell, Harrow's successfull summer assault on street crime, rounding off with such a productive "result".

Stay alert.Stay safe and enjoy being in Harrow.
