A BRENT MP has voted for David Miliband in the Labour leadership contest.

Barry Gardiner (Lab/Brent North) told his Twitter followers he has backed David Miliband in his race to lead the party's opposition to the coalition Government.

Mr Gardiner is an outspoken Blairite, making no secret of the fact he saw Gordon Brown's leadership as a negative departure from the “third way”.

In a previous tweet he said: “Amazing, audience singing interrupted the roll call at David's Movement4Change. Feels more like an ANC rally – fantastic.”

The ANC, or African National Congress, the ruling party in South Africa, was led for many years by Nelson Mandela, the inspirational president who brought the country out of apartheid following years as a political prisoner.
