Cllr Susan Hall 'delighted' after Tory leadership win

THE new leader of the Tories in Harrow said she is “the luckiest person in the world” to have been given the job.

Councillor Susan Hall, deputy leader of the council, was elected on Friday as the new group leader of the Conservatives, and will take over from Councillor David Ashton after the May elections.

Cllr Hall said: “I am very honoured, delighted and excited to have got the job.

“I want us to continue with what we have been doing, and be more and more successful delivering for our residents.

“I am the luckiest person in the world really.”

The Hatch End councillor is now in pole position to become Harrow's first female leader of the council, providing the Tories retain a majority of seats in May.

She added: “It's always nice to be the first, and it would be an important milestone I think.”

Councillor Barry Macleod-Cullinane (Belmont) will become deputy leader of the party when Cllr Hall steps up to become leader.

Cllr Hall said she is staying tight-lipped about potential cabinet posts at the moment, and will reveal more “when the time is right.”

Councillor Bill Stephenson, leader of the opposition Labour group, congratulated Cllr Hall on her election, and suggested she would be a “doughty” opponent for him.
