STAFF at North Harrow Tube station have been hailed as the best in London for the second year in a row.

The station won the Customer Service Team of the Year award at last week's London Transport Awards.

The staff were noted for their “outstanding levels of customer care” and the success is even more remarkable given that until last year, the prize had never been awarded to a station outside central London.

After scooping the prize, Barry Grant, group station manager for North Harrow, said: “To win best customer service team for a second year in a row is not only a surprise but a huge honour, made even more so because it was voted for by our customers.

“I am immensely proud of my team and the hard work they put in every day to provide excellent customer service.”

The future of customer service at North Harrow Tube station was cast into doubt in 2007 with plans to axe ticket offices across the capital, including in North Harrow.

However, following a high-profile campaign led by North Harrow ticket office manager James Bond, the plans were scrapped by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Sonal Patel, of Church Drive, North Harrow, who regularly used the station, said: “No other station even comes close to their very high standards of care.

“I particularly appreciate the live station announcements, as well as being welcomed by name by the man in the ticket office whenever I use North Harrow.”
