CAMPAIGNERS have won their fight to get a Kingsbury health clinic hit by safety fears moved to temporary buildings.
The future of Stag Lane Medical Centre was thrown into doubt in November after a crack emerged in one of the side walls and services in that part of the building had to be farmed out to nearby surgeries.
But staff at the clinic called for portable accommodation to be put up in the car park so they could continue to provide care to residents in the area.
NHS Brent has confirmed it will pursue the proposal, and the centre will run from temporary buildings for the next two years.
Mark Easton, the trust's chief executive, said: “This will give certainty to patients and the practice about the future of the clinic for at least the next two years.
“Had we retained the clinic building, we could not have guaranteed that additional underground movement would not have destabilised the building further.”
Councillor Kanta Mistry (Cons/Queensbury) said: “Everyone I have spoken to desperately wants to keep these medical services in Queensbury and it is vital that we ensure this happens.”
NHS Brent says it will seek to move services into the temporary buildings as quickly as possible, and will publish a timetable shortly.
The plans will be debated by councillors in a meeting at Brent Town Hall, in Forty Lane, on Wednesday, February 17.
