A GREEN politician says Tory Harrow Council is coming around to his party's view on climate change.

The authority's draft strategy for tackling global warming is likely to go out to public consultation after a meeting of leading councillors on Thursday, and the document calls for long term cuts in carbon emissions.

Rowan Langley, Green Party candidate for Harrow West, said: “This is what as a party we've been saying should have been done for years. We are seeing other parties slightly coming round to the same point of view.”

He added: “Let's stop hanging about and lets go for it.”

He also called on residents to use technology to reduce their dependence on mains electricity in their own homes.

The council report says 75 per cent of electricity is generated using fossil fuels, and Mr Langley says the Green Party already has a house powered entirely by other other sources, mainly solar panels, for eight months of the year.

He claims alternative technologies are available for people to use in their houses and said the prices are starting to drop.
