TfL: Harrow residents support Jubilee Line engineering work

TRANSPORT bosses are claiming to have the backing of Harrow residents for engineering works on the Jubilee Line.

A Transport for London (TfL) commissioned survey suggests around 75 per cent of people are happy to suffer weekend tube closures if it means improvements to the service.

The body is treating the results as an endorsement of what it describes as the biggest programme of upgrades in the history of the underground.

Howard Collins, chief operating officer at London Underground, said: “No one involved in running a railway ever wants to see it closed, or running with interruptions but without these we would be limited to working for a just a few hours a night.

“We could do the work that way, but it would take much longer and we want to see passengers in Harrow getting a 21st century line as soon as possible.”

The work, which will carry a total bill worth millions of pounds, is intended to allow more trains to run on the line and travel 22 per cent faster.

It will see a third platform put in at Stanmore Park station, along with new CCTV.
