Labour calls for plastic bag fees

A POLITICAL party is calling for a charge on plastic bags at supermarkets.

Labour councillors want to see Harrow become a more environmentally friendly borough, with less packaging on food in shops and paper bags instead of plastic ones.

Councillor Phillip O'Dell, deputy leader of the Labour Group, said: “For a start we could use far more paper bags as they do in North America and also charge for all plastic bags.”

He said he wanted to work with environmental groups like Friends of the Earth.

Is this all these idiots have got??? An extra charge DURING A RECESSION.

Is this not the worst bunch of Labour loonies in the history of the world.

Brilliant Cllr O'Dell and pray tell how good paper bags are in the RAIN.

No wonder Labour left harrow in such a state.

Why have you used the possessive apostrophe in "Friend(')s" which is a straightforward plural?

Do they use far more paper bags in North America? Perhaps Mr O'Dell can provide the evidence.

Yes - O'Dull should fly there to check this out. A one-way ticket would be just perfect.

Why not use plastic bags as bin liners and the you do not have to purchase bin liners?

If they are biodegradable even better
