THE family of two sisters have paid tribute to them after they were murdered in their flat in Birmingham.

Yasmine Larbi-Cherif, 22, and Sabrina Larbi-Cherif, 19, were found stabbed to death on Monday, September 15.

The family of the girls, from Windermere Avenue, South Kenton, issued a statement after they were killed praising the "humble, compassionate, generous and helpful" women.

They said: "Yasmine and Sabrina were and will always be dearly loved and very respected by everyone who knew them.

"With amazing skills and tremendous determination, Yasmine and Sabrina excelled at everything they were involved with socially and educationally.

"Due to their Islamic faith and open-minded upbringing, they were always humble, compassionate, generous and helpful to anyone who knew them.

"Yasmine and Sabrina will be remembered as a genuine example of a fruitful combination of two different cultures benefiting their native and adoptive country."

The two women were brutally murdered in their flat in Ladywood, an area of Birmingham, and police have launched a manhunt for their killers.

They moved to Britain ten years ago, had both excelled academically, and were students at Birmingham University.

The family said: "It was the happiest day of Sabrina’s life when she achieved her grades to be able to go to Birmingham and join her sister."

Eighty police officers have been assigned to finding the women's killers.

• A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and remains in custody being questioned by police.
• A post mortem revealed both the women died from stab wounds.
