The council is urging people willing to become foster parents to get in touch as part of a two-week campaign drive.

Harrow Council is encouraging people who want to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people to contact them during Fostering Fortnight, running from May 14 to 27.

The national event is run by The Fostering Network and is the UK’s biggest foster care campaign.

Comprehensive training, generous allowances and plenty of support is available.

Peter Tolley, interim divisional director of Children and Young People Services, said: "Harrow Council is committed to providing good quality care to those children unable to live with their own families and we welcome enquiries from anyone who feels they can join our foster care team.”

“Fostering Fortnight is a time to thank our current foster carers for everything they do and to encourage anyone interested in making a difference to a child’s life through fostering to get in touch to find out more."

In Harrow, there are 62 fostering households and around 165 looked-after children.

At least 8,000 new foster families will be needed across the UK during 2018 to provide stable homes for record numbers of fostered children, according to figures from The Fostering Network.
