A Jewish school held an evening of music to celebrate nearly three centuries since it was established.

JFS School, in Kenton, hosted a gala school choir event on March 15 to celebrate the school’s 285th anniversary and 15 years in the area.

They were joined by the Moriah Jewish Day School choir and several other Jewish primary school choirs to perform a repertoire of songs together, as well as separate school performances.

The children sang before the audience consisting of parents and siblings of the performers, and one attendee described the mood of the evening as ‘exuberant’.

The JFS choir together with Kerem, Mathilda Marks, Sacks Morasha, Moriah and Rosh Pinah primary schools each performed a number of songs, ending with a rendition of ‘Adon Olam’ in medley performed by over 200 performers.

Simon Appleman, acting head teacher, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many schools to a wonderful evening of music-making”
