A group of young choir singers made it to the final of a national competition, helping to raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The North London Collegiate School Choir, from Stanmore, sang their hearts out in the final of the annual Barnardo’s National Choral Competition at London’s Royal Festival Hall on March 12, helping to raise £37,000 for the charity.

They were joined by four other schools for the event, having made the national shortlist of 25 from over 100 entries.

The young choir performed two songs to the panel, and then one later in the evening to the audience before the winners were announced.

Mrs Joanna Newman, Head of the Junior School, said: “We were all thrilled that our Junior Chamber singers, Canons Choir were selected out of hundreds of schools to perform in the finals.

“It was an exciting and memorable experience for our girls to perform in front of an audience of thousands at the Royal Festival Hall and also to support such a wonderful and worthy cause.”

Barnardo’s Chief Executive, Javed Khan, said: “This was a wonderful evening of music performed by some talented young Barnardo’s supporters.

“We are so grateful for all of the hard work they put into their rehearsals – it certainly paid off and raised an incredible amount of money too.”
