A number of free activities and health assessments will be available at a leisure centre in a bid to raise awareness about diabetes.

Harrow Leisure Centre’s Everyone Active scheme, in Christchurch Avenue, has a partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a charity dedicated to funding research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes.

The organisation also aims to give support and offer a voice to people with type 1 and their families.

There will be a stall set up at the leisure centre on Monday, June 12 and Tuesday 13 to offer people living with diabetes a chance to meet and share experiences with others.

The leisure centre will also be supporting this year’s Men’s Health Week, with the campaign’s main concern being belly fat increasing the risk of multiple health issues.

Men of all ages are invited to come and take part in a free session of walking football on Tuesday 13.

In support of both causes, Harrow Leisure Centre are also offering free health assessments and health and lifestyle advice on Tuesday 13, led by Everyone Active GP referral manager Richard Coker.

The following week, in support of Women’s Sports Week, Everyone Active will be offering free netball sessions for females on Wednesday June 21 and on Saturday June 24.

Everyone Active general manager Iain Milton said: “We are always looking for opportunities to raise awareness for issues which affect the health of many of us.

“These are both excellent causes which are close to us at Everyone Active and we look forward to welcoming people throughout the week.”
