Construction has begun on a new 80-bed care home in Harrow.

The £7.6 million Sudbury Hill facility, which is being built by Castleoak for care provider Care UK, is due to welcome its first residents in autumn 2017.

It will feature its own in-built cinema, hair dressing salon and garden café, and replaces an outdated care home on the same site which has now been demolished.

The three-storey home will contain 80 en-suite bedrooms, and residents will have access to a 24-hour nurse call system in case they get into difficulties.

The home will boost the availability of residential care, including specialist dementia care, nursing and short term respite care, for older people in the Harrow area.

Speaking at the start on site ceremony, project manager Justin Daley said: “We are delighted work has begun on the new care home in Harrow, not least because this impressive development reflects our commitment to improving the provision of residential care in the borough.”
