Harrow Council is showing its support for the LGBT community in this year's London Pride festival.

Council staff will be marching in the festival’s grand finale on Saturday, June 25, to show off their theme of “celebrating the diversity of our borough”.

Locals are being invited to join the group on the day of the parade - if you would like to get involved with the march or any of the council's equality events, email equalities@harrow.gov.uk

Councillor Varsha Parmar, portfolio holder for equality and wellbeing, said: “After the terrible recent events in Florida, this is a great chance for us to stand together and shout out against discrimination and hatred.

“Our staff in the LGBT community are a wonderful and welcoming bunch and this is a great chance for newcomers who may feel a bit nervous to join in with what I can promise will be an amazing day out at PRIDE.”

This year’s festival coincides with the council’s new equalities objective to promote and celebrate the diversity of Harrow.

The colours of the LGBT community were flown above the council building on Station Road earlier this year to celebrate LGBT History Month.

Over the past year, staff have been working with local groups to organise a number of events centred around Black History Month, LGBT History Month, International Women’s Day and Interfaith Week.
