THE MP for Brent North met pupils receiving free eye tests at their school.
Labour MP Barry Gardiner visited The Village School, in Grove Park, Kingsbury, on Friday, to learn about its involvement with the SeeAbility charity.
He was given a tour of the school and met some of the 270 pupils involved with the charity’s Children in Focus Campaign, which provides sight tests and dispenses glasses to children with learning disabilities.
Mr Gardiner believes easier access to eye tests will help children improve their education.
He said: “It was wonderful to visit The Village School and see first-hand what a difference the SeeAbility sight testing model is making to children’s lives.
“It was clear to me that the Children in Focus project in Kingsbury plays a valuable role in our community, supporting children with complex needs to get the most out of their education.”
Kay Charles, head teacher at The Village School, said there had been “significant progress” in pupils’ learning since working with the charity over the past couple of years.
She said: “It was brilliant to welcome Mr Gardiner to our school to see our project with SeeAbility. Our pupils can’t necessarily tell us what they can or can’t see in the classroom and now we have a lot of that information.
“We have been working with SeeAbility for over two years now and we are seeing significant progress in a range of academic, personal and social areas of learning.”
