Navin Shah, Labour candidate and incumbent assembly member for Brent and Harrow, has been re-elected for a third term.

Mr Shah took an early lead as the live count progressed from 8am this morning, finally storming to victory with 79,902 votes.

His nearest rival, the Conservative's Cllr Joel Davidson, secured 59,147 votes, while Liberal Democrat Anton Georgiou - the youngest candidate to stand in the elections - managed 11,534 votes.

Green Party candidate Jafar Hassan got 9,874 votes and UKIP's Rathy Alagaratnam won 9,074 votes.

In his victory speech this evening at the count location in Alexandra Palace, Mr Shah said: "Thank you to the residents and voters. I will fight to ensure a better quality of life."

To his opposing candidates, the former Harrow councillor and Leader of Harrow Council, added: "We should all be working together to unite communities."

Mr Shah was first elected as assembly member for Brent and Harrow in 2008, retaining the position in 2012.

Results for London Mayor are yet to be announced but so far all indications point to a win for Labour's Sadiq Khan.
