A day centre which has been running for 25 years celebrated the landmark anniversary with a party for members, volunteers and staff.

Jewish Care’s Edgware & Harrow Day Centre, which has been running at the Edgware District Reform Synagogue, held the party on Thursday, January 21.

Many of the guests were retired volunteers who returned to celebrate at the anniversary party.

After lunch there was entertainment which got everyone singing along and dancing the conga around the centre.

After the party, member Mrs Lilian Greene said: "I love spending my day at the centre. The volunteers and staff work so hard to make sure the members have a good day."

Another member, Parry Bradman wrote to the organisation to thank those involved with the centre.

He said: "The staff are fantastic, they are helpful and work very hard and I must pay tribute to the volunteers, without whom the centre could not run. On Thursday, the entertainer was brilliant and a great benefit to us all, particularly those in wheelchairs as this is a vital part of their day."

Jacey Harris, centre manager, said: "It was a great party and we valued the opportunity to mark our 25 years here with an anniversary party, together with members and volunteers.

"The centre has adapted to meet the changing needs of the community and we know it’s a real lifeline for our members.

"The sessions and activities provide older members of the community with an opportunity to socialise and enjoy meaningful activities designed to promote physical and mental well being."

The centre offers a programme of activities from Monday to Thursday, in a warm and friendly environment.

Members can enjoy art and crafts classes, keep fit classes, afternoon entertainment and a hot fish or vegetarian lunch is available as well as morning tea and coffee.

The day centre was previously at The Middlesex New Synagogue in Harrow and was set up around 40 years ago by The League of Jewish Women.
