A 59-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a female police officer.

Nelson Jab Nazarene, of Elmwood Crescent, Kingsbury, has been charged with attempted murder after a female police officer was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver last week.

The attack took place after police were called to help a mental health team with a 59-year-old patient who was refusing to go to hospital.

The policewoman was rushed to a north London hospital with a half inch cut to the forehead, but was not seriously injured.

Officers had entered the address in Elmwood Crescent and tried to speak with the patient, but he barricaded himself in a room. They tried to detain him for his own safety when he attacked them.

Three other officers were also attacked but did not need hospital treatment.

The man is accused of five offences including one of attempted murder, three counts of attempted grievous bodily harm and one count of making threats to kill.

Nazarene appeared at Hendon Magistrates’ Court last week and he was remanded in custody to appear at Harrow Crown Court at a later date.
