Book worms can celebrate their love of reading at a series of events aimed at young children.

After a summer of Lego workshops for children, Harrow libraries are now hosting more fun and creative events to encourage youngsters to catch the reading bug.

Visitors at Roxeth Library will be celebrating International Literacy Day, which is on September 8, by creating words in a scrabble afternoon.

This year, families and children aged ten and up can join in the fun at Roxeth Library on Tuesday, September 10 from 3pm to 5.30pm and enjoy an afternoon of fun word play with the much-loved board game.

International Literacy Day gives children and communities a chance to rediscover the importance and joy of reading, while aiming to raise awareness of those who without access to an education.

Also in September, Harrow libraries will be hosting a range of events and activities for families as they celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday

Born on September 13, 1916, this year would mark the 99th birthday of the famous Cardiff-born children’s author – best known for his works such as The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach.

In Harrow, a number of exciting and creative activities will be held for young and old throughout the day on Saturday, September 12.

Libraries that will be offering family-friendly fun include Gayton Library, Kenton Library, Pinner Library, Roxeth Library, Wealdstone Library and Stanmore Library.
