A high school has celebrated a record breaking year of success with the release of this year’s GCSE results.

Students at Whitmore High School, in Porlock Avenue, celebrated their fantastic GCSE results after an anxious wait this summer.

Flavia Tritto who was one of the school’s outstanding performers, gaining 13 A*s at GCSE.

The 16-year-old, who was also sailing for the British development team at the time of her exams, will now study A Levels in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry.

Lewis Nagle, 16, was named as another of the school’s outstanding performers with 9 A*s and 2 As.

He said: “It’s weird that a small envelope can encapsulate almost your entire school life so far, but I’m really glad all the hard work has paid off”.

Overall, a total of 76 per cent of pupils achieved five A* to C grades, including Maths and English.

Head Sue Hammond said: “We are all very proud of these students who deserve their day of celebration today.

“These results represent a new record for Whitmore and I am particularly delighted with the high number of A*s and A’s this year.”
