Students have shown just how big their hearts are after winning a collection of awards for their dedication to fundraising.

More than 25,000 students from around 400 schools have taken part in the Wings of Hope Achievement Awards (WOHAA) since 2005, with this year’s students hosting a range of fundraising activities from rowing marathons and 24-hour fasts to converting vinyl records into fruit bowls.

But one team of girls topped them all as Team Eclipse from Northwood College for Girls in Maxwell Road, Northwood, won the ‘Overall Winning Team and Most Funds Raised’ award at a ceremony held this month.

Around 300 guests including teachers and parents attended the annual event to see the girls take home the top prize.

The winning team, which features Lauren Lewis, Davina Pindoria, Tara Ghassami, Riya Kotecha and Sherin Ahmet, will be setting off on an expenses-paid trip to India in February half term.

There they will have the unique opportunity to teach at the Wings of Hope School and visit the WOHAA slums project.

The team raised a huge £6,000 by organising six events, including a sponsored haircut, a school talent show, a student prom and an afternoon tea for the elderly.

Also from Northwood College for Girls, Team Ignite won the ‘Best Community Action’ award and a summer internship while Team Soar were presented with ‘Runners Up to the Most Funds Raised’ award and will also receive a summer internship.
