Pupils from a Bushey primary school spent the day at a museum learning about its history.

Almost 30 pupils from Bournehall Primary School, Bournehall Avenue, visited Bentley Priory Museum, in The Common, Stanmore.

The group spent the day in a Grade II* mansion which was used as the fighter command headquarters during the Battle of Britain.

The collections and exhibitions at the museum tell the story of the role the mansion played in the war.

During the visit, the children had the chance to handle objects and they had to work out what they were used for.

Kathy Desmond, a teacher at Bournehall Primary School, said: “The children had a very interesting time at Bentley Priory Museum.

“They enjoyed going round the museum and learnt so much about the history of the building and the important role it played in the Battle of Britain. The trip has really given them a greater understanding of the Second World War.”
