A ten-year-old has gone from being told she would never be able to talk to opening a new supermarket as a ‘child celebrity’.

Woodlands School pupil Savannah Dolor, of Montrose Avenue, Wealdstone, helped cut the ribbon at the official opening of the new Asda supermarket in High Street, Wealdstone, on Thursday.

Joined by Harrow mayor Councillor Krishna Suresh, the ten-year-old was invited to attend the service as a ‘local celebrity and guest of honour’ after the Harrow Times published a story about her journey.

At just two years old, the keen photographer was diagnosed with global disorder delay - a condition that affects the development of skills such as cognitive abilities and motor skills - and doctors told her mother Kandy that Savannah would never learn to speak and that she should prepare herself to never hear her daughter’s voice.

But, despite the odds, Savannah began to say words and form sentences and has now launched her own YouTube channel.

Kandy Dolor said: “Savannah had a brilliant time opening Asda. All the staff were amazing and made Savannah's day, she is extremely happy.

“I am very grateful to the Harrow Times for publishing Savannah’s story and to Asda for giving Savannah this wonderful opportunity.

“Together you have all made my daughter very happy and that makes me beyond happy.”

Savannah was presented with a £250 donation by the store, which she plans to use to buy a new camera to film videos for her YouTube blog, which she shares with children who also have the same condition.

Mrs Dolor added: “We were so honoured to be part of the opening celebrations – it’s made our week.

“Savannah is going to love using her camera to film herself baking and playing outside.”

The new Asda store has created 75 jobs.
