An Edgware couple who lost their baby to a rare disease will be showered with powder paints as they run to raise money in his memory.

Rena and Diyen’s son, Kayen, was cared for by Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, in Victors Way, Barnet, before he died when he was two.

The toddler was diagnosed with mucolipidosis II, which can cause skeletal deformities, eye problems and learning disabilities, when he was three weeks old.

But his parents are determined to raise money for the charity that helped look after him and are one of hundreds of people taking part in the Rainbow Run on Sunday, June 7.

Rena said: “We were so scared about being referred to a hospice but within no time our fear was gone. Everyone was friendly, caring and completely understood all of our needs.

“We just wanted Kayen to have a happy, fun-filled life and for him to be able to do normal things. That’s what we were able to give him with the help and support from the team at Noah’s Ark.

“Kayen had lots of fun at family days, and he was excited to be around other children.”

He died on December 30, 2013 and the couple say they could “not imagine life” without Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.

The Rainbow Run will be held on June 7 at Allianz Park, in Hendon, and is being supported by Martyn Gerrard Estate Agents.

Rena added: “His beautiful smile, warm cuddles and personality are the reason we’re taking part and fundraising.

“Kayen had so many happy days because of Noah’s Ark – we hope that by sharing our story and raising money for Noah’s Ark we’ll be helping other children and families benefit from their great work.”

Registration costs £20 for anyone aged 12 and over, £10 for anyone aged under 12 years old and £5 for a 'rainbow squad'.
