Legal firms from across the borough are set to battle it out in a charity quiz competition.

The Harrow Times has teamed up the mental health charity Mind in Harrow for the second year to put on the MasterMind in Harrow competition.

Earlier this year school pupils from six schools fought to be crowned MasterMind at Harrow School while raising more than £7,000 for the charity in the months leading up to the competition.

After the success of the school competition, legal firms from Harrow will enter teams of four in a University Challenge-style quiz at the historic Grims Dyke Hotel in February next year.

Between now and the big contest in February next year, each team will have to raise a £1,200 entry fee which will go to the charity.

Chief executive of Mind in Harrow Mark Gillham said: “Lawyers from local leading firms including Harold Benjamin and Duncan Lewis are swotting up on their facts. We hear an unprecedented number are watching Mind President’s Stephen Fry’s QI in a bid to boost their brain power.

"Never before have solicitors' firms and barristers; chambers been involved in such an exciting competition.

"Everyone has gone to great lengths to select the best team possible and it looks to be a close-run thing.

“This competition is a great opportunity for law firms to give back. Many of the participating firms are great advocates for people with mental ill-health.

“They understand the stigma of mental health and the life-shattering impact it can have – and are delighted to support our work – which they know can and does stop people’s lives from falling apart.”

In the run up to the competition the Harrow Times will be following each of the firms’ progress raising their entry fee.

This year people are also able to show their support to those taking part by donating to the charity online here.
