Football matches across North London are being postponed because of the state of local authority pitches.

Councils seem happy to take thousands of pounds a season from football teams but Sunday league players say the pitches they play on are not fit for purpose.

Teams in Enfield are now considering boycotting the pitches, claiming they are not safe.

So have councils scored an own goal by not providing footballers with a decent surface to play their games?

The Times and Independent Series is now on the hunt to find the worst local authority pitches in north London.

Have you seen a goal collapse midway through the first half? Has your centre forward missed an open goal because of a particularly large divot? Can your goalkeeper make sand castles in his penalty area? Do you regularly have to dodge dog poo before launching into a slide tackle? Has your speedy winger being tackled by the long grass?

If any of the above sounds familiar, we want to hear from you.

Could it be that the number of players dropping out of the game because of the poor standard of the pitches is to blame for the lack of home-grown players coming through the ranks at Premier League clubs?

And if a pitch in Barnet, Enfield, Harrow, Haringey or Borehamwood’s has caused you an injury or problem, we also want to hear from you.

Whether it’s a senior or youth match – tell us why the pitch you play on deserves the crown of worst pitch in North London.

We want to name the worst in each borough before asking each council what it is doing to make them safer.

Send an email titled ‘Worst football pitches’ to charlie.peat@london.newsquest.co.uk, with a brief description of what happened on that pitch. Please include photographs if you have any.
