A man suffered life threatening injuries after he fell from a moving minicab this morning.

The 26-year-old was left with head injuries after he fell into the road at Alexandra Road, at the junction with Clitheroe Avenue, Rayners Lane, just after 1.05am.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and he has been taken to a central London hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Detectives believe he was part of a group of men and women who were close to a Renault Traffic minicab parked outside Dominos Pizza on Alexandra Avenue.

The cab drove away but after a short distance the driver realised the tailgate was open and a man was rolling on the road behind the vehicle.

The driver returned to the injured man and has not been arrested.

At this stage it is not known how the man came to be in the minicab and officers are keen to make contact with the other members of the man's group who had left the scene by the time officers arrived.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We know this man was with a group of what appeared to be friends or colleagues moments before he was injured.

“He is now in hospital in a critical condition and I would urge anyone with information to come forward so that we can establish the precise events."
