The group behind a bilingual free school is due hear within the month if its bid has been successful.

If its application is approved by the Department for Education, Harrow Bilingual Primary School could open in September 2015 with one Year One class and two Reception classes.

The group planning the school has announced a series of information days for parents to find out more about the plans.

The information events will take place at Harrow School in their Old Harrovian Room, War Memorial Building, in Harrow-on-the-Hill.

The school group is in partnership with the London Diocesan Board for Schools and will be supported by Holy Trinity CE Primary School in Northwood.

Headteacher of Holy Trinity Daniel Norris said: “I believe this new school provides an exciting opportunity for all pupils regardless of their background to become fluent French speakers whilst at primary school.

“As a linguist myself I have benefitted from my knowledge of languages and believe an understanding and appreciation of languages unlocks many opportunities for children as they grow.”

Chairman of governors Ian Fernandes said: “Until now the only way for children to benefit from bilingual education was to go to a private school. I am a local parent and I think all families should have this opportunity.”

The school will start teaching children French in Reception class, and will also offer Spanish at Key Stage 2.

The open days will take place Saturday October 4, Saturday October 18 and Saturday, November 22, all from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.
