The largest union in the borough has officially moved into its new headquarters in the heart of Harrow.

Harrow Unison now has its new home, which was opened today, in the old Harrow Civic Centre library, in Station Road.

Guest of honour was long-time supporter of the union movement John Hendy QC who gave a short speech about the importance of union's representation for workers.

The union, which has more than 3,000 members, was forced out of its previous home at the Harrow Depot, in Forward Drive, as a cost cutting measure in March this year.

It was offered its new home by Harrow Borough Council following the closure of the library last year.

Harrow branch secretary Gary Martin said: "We are very happy with the move. We are in a location at the heart of the borough.

"Now we have facilitates which are up to date and better suited to our needs. Importantly it has helped raise the profile of Unison and the work we do with council staff."

The new headquarters has two offices and training room used by members and council staff.
