People are being invited to a picnic to learn how to get the most out of their weekly food shop.

Rubbish Diet Harrow has teamed up other projects to host a Best Before picnic on Saturday, August 30, from 12pm to 3pm.

The event aims show people the difference between ‘best before’ and ‘use by’ date on foods and to help people make better use of the produce they buy.

At the picnic there will be best before food on offer for people to try, foodie games and a chance to share recipes for using leftover food.

The Rubbish Diet project launched in Harrow last year, with ambitions to help households cut the amount of rubbish they send to landfill and increase the amount they recycle.

According to organisers the average family throws away up to £60 a week of food that could otherwise be eaten.

The picnic will take place in the park area of in the car park of 160 Northolt Road, South Harrow, and is open to all.
