Criticism of cuts was hypocritical

If Harrow residents are ever in doubt about how close we are to a GLA election, all they need to do is take a sounding of Councillor Navin Shah’s hypocrisy level.

For as he inaccurately blames fluctuating police numbers on cuts made by the Mayor (‘Police cuts a serious gamble’, Harrow Times, September 29), his Labour colleagues in Harrow are taking the knife to the council’s own police team.

Launched by our administration in 2008, the council’s police team was previously comprised of seven officers. The council’s Labour administration has just reduced it to five, despite the MPA offering them a special deal allowing them to increase it to nine while still saving money.

Cllr Shah is a member of the Labour group in Harrow, so I’m frankly amazed he has the gall to criticise the Mayor when he and his Labour colleagues are themselves putting Harrow’s safety at risk.

I’ve heard of politicians saying anything to get themselves elected, but a politician railing against something he himself is doing is a certainly a new experience.
