Jeremy Zeid never fails to serve up a rant. It would be too much to expect a positive contribution or constructive criticism, just the usual childish point scoring which the ordinary residents dislike and are fed up with.
Past Tory cuts (remember, Milk snatcher Maggie Thatcher, to this year’s Con-Dem Government’s attempts to stop free milk for little children) as well as the new ridiculous announcements of cuts, coupled with sound bites, almost every week means genuine and crucial front line services will no doubt be affected. Unfortunately, these cuts are based on dogma-driven and class-oriented politics of the Tories.
The choices — disguised shamefully by Tories as unavoidable — forced upon Harrow are a direct result of the Government’s shameful cuts.
Now they are in charge at national level, they will destroy many more services and lives.
Doesn’t Mr Zeid understand that what matters to people are the library opening and service delivery times? Surely any change usually causes nervousness and anxiety before it beds in. Many councils across the country are using the same services.
There should be absolutely no doubt whatsoever that we do have lot of respect and appreciation for the hard-working and honest staff across the board and we will try our utmost to minimise any damage, but remember any redundancy is a direct result of Con-Dem policy and no one else.
They should have listened to Labour and many independent experts who said we need not make drastic cuts so quickly and invite the double dip recession — the indicators are moving in that direction. There was a clear alternative available while reducing the deficit.
Don’t assume Harrovians are fools and will not see through you, Mr Zeid. They saw the big Harrow-wide picture in this year’s election when you were defeated and will see through again in 2014.
Cllr Thaya Idaikkadar, Labour, Roxeth Ward
