Pensioners will get fairer deal

In these difficult times it is easy to complain and only look at the bad side of things.

I for one am delighted that the new Coalition Government has done what Tony Blair and Gordon Brown failed to do over 13 years in power — to give our pensioners a fair deal.

It has taken Liberal Democrat influence in the new Government to re-instate the earnings link to future increases in state pensions for over 10 million pensioners, including tens of thousands in our area.

Pensioners will now receive an increase which is the highest of 2.5 per cent or increase in inflation of earnings — and that is very good news indeed!
