I WAS pleased to see Mayor Boris Johnson has rowed back from breaking his promise to fund rape crisis centres after he was widely criticised in April when the funding he announced was half he had pledged.
His manifesto promised £744,000 a year (more than £2.2 million over three years), but once he was elected, he could find only £233,000.
Thankfully, he has now announced £1.4m of funding over three years. While I welcome this change of heart, and hope some of the much-needed investment comes to Brent and Harrow, the money is almost £1m less than Boris promised last year.
A promise is a promise, and the Mayor should stick to the promises that got him elected.
